Made out of 583 individually cut pieces of new fabric, the Downtown Los Angeles quilt wall hanging is assembled and stitched together in the Textilepop studio. The art quilt is inspired by a photograph taken at the legendary Observatory in Griffith Park (see original source image at bottom left). Each of the thirteen colors in the Downtown Los Angeles quilt was carefully chosen to reference the faded blues, greys, browns and greens from the color palette in the original source image.

Opened in 1935, the famous Griffith Observatory is located in the heart of Los Angeles in Griffith Park. It is one of the largest urban parks in the United States and also home to thousands of acres of chapparal covered terrain and native woodlands of oak and walnut.

The art quilt is made with all new cotton materials. The bias tape was hand cut in the Textilepop studio from the same fabric and specifically matched to the color characteristics of the Downtown Los Angeles Quilt. The art quilt features a twill tape sleeve on the back for hanging and display.
